Zandra Jean Cote (Hyovalti) was born to dairy farmers William and Violet Hyovalti of Aitkin, MN in 1945. She later moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for Munsingwear, General Office Products, and Shamrock Industries. It was at Shamrock that she met David Cote, who she married in 1975. Zandra passed away on February 5, 2022. She was 76 years old.
“Zee” loved her family and friends more than anything, and spent many hours enjoying and supporting them by hosting family holidays, planning family reunions, organizing neighborhood Bunko tournaments, attending 4-H events, going to baseball games, and helping with gardening or home improvement projects. She served as the neighborhood “Avon lady” for decades and volunteered with the school PTA. Once her boys were grown, she returned to the workforce as a sample board maker for RBC Tile & Stone in Plymouth.
Zandra was the best bargain hunter around ("At that price, how can you go wrong?") and loved to shop and spoil her family and her grandchildren. She had a knack for collecting stories from everyone she met, and never missed an opportunity to chat about anything, often for hours at a time. She had an infectious laugh that delighted all who knew her. Zandra took great pride in her Finnish heritage, and was able to visit relatives from Finland in 1993. She was also a State Fair blue ribbon bread maker, though precious few people got to sample her famous bread ("That's a lot of work.").
Zandra is preceded in death by her parents William and Violet, sister Dorothy, brother Don, and husband David.
She is survived by her siblings, Ray (Cheryl) and Les (Yvette); her sons, Dan (Maria) and Jim (Kristin); step-children John, Michelle (Brad), and Peter; grandchildren Kayla (Matt), Keylin, Nikki, McKenna, Taylor, Charlotte, Ruby, and Davey; and had the joy of welcoming her first great-grandchild, Harper, in October of 2020. She was "Auntie" to many nieces and nephews and their children, and like a sister to many of her cousins. She will be sorely missed, and never forgotten.
A celebration of Zandra's life will take place at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home in Plymouth on Friday, February 25, 2022. Visitation and reception with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m., service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Zandra's name.
