William “Bill” Nord
June 28, 1925 – August 10, 2022
Bill Nord lived a long, purposeful, generous, faithful, energetic and happy life. He loved God, telling stories, traveling, creating photo albums, listening to music, swing dancing, drinking Rob Roys, and giving away all the money he could to the many good causes he championed. Most especially he loved his wife of 65 years, Dolores, who passed away in 2019, his four children, ten grandchildren, five great-grands, sister, and his many in-laws, relatives and friends. He was a devoted member of the Downtown Minneapolis Rotary Club and the last surviving member of the Hotsy Totsy Bridge Club.
Born in Chicago to Swedish immigrants, Bill was a WWII Navy veteran who served on Guam. After earning an MA in economics from the University of Chicago, he followed Dolores to Minneapolis, where he worked for IDS until age 65. After “retirement,” he traveled the world as an international financial analyst until he was 82 years old. Bill excelled in this work because he loved to talk with interesting people. Literally to his dying day, his curious mind craved stimulating conversation.
Bill had a deep and abiding faith. He and Dolores were members or supporters of numerous congregations, including Christ Church Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran in Minneapolis, Calvary Lutheran in Golden Valley, St. James Lutheran in Crystal, Peace Lutheran in Coon Rapids, and Westwood Lutheran in St. Louis Park. Among his leadership positions, he was proudest of having served as treasurer for the Minneapolis Area Synod of the ELCA, Lutheran Social Services of MN, and Community Emergency Services in Minneapolis. Dedicated philanthropists throughout their life together, Bill and Dolores donated generously to these and other faith-based organizations.
A service to celebrate his life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 26 at Christ Church Lutheran, 3244 34th Ave S., Mpls, MN 55406 . Visitation at the church at 10:00 AM.
Memorials in his name may be directed to the organizations listed above. His family wishes to thank the staff at Covenant Living in Golden Valley, Allina Hospice, and North Memorial Hospice for the loving care he received.
