Wilbur John Aiken, born in Minot, North Dakota, long-time resident of Marshall and Plymouth, Minnesota, died on November 21, 2022. He was 86.
Wilbur was born in 1936, to Lyle and Anne (Ford) Aiken, the second of 6 children - Allen Lee, who died in childbirth; Wilbur John (1936 - 2022); Beverly Ann (Radke) (1938 - 2002); Eva Mae (1947 - 1954); James Dallas (1953 - 2005); and, Cherri Sue (Larson) (1955 - ).
Wilbur grew up in and around Minot, North Dakota. His father worked for the Great Northern Railroad; his mother was a homemaker. In 1954, Wilbur graduated Minot High School. He served two years in the U.S. Army (8.3.54 - 7.26.56). In 1957, he married Darleen Stokke of Crosby, North Dakota. They had 3 children—Shawn Aiken (Lynn Anderson (Phoenix)), Kristi Christman (St. Paul), and Kelly Moon (Forest Lake)—three grandchildren (Ellen, Eric, and Andrew) and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Ava Dhanani.
Wilbur graduated from the University of North Dakota (B.A., 1960 and M.A., 1964). In 1969, he was awarded a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri. That same year, the family moved to Marshall, Minnesota, where Wilbur directed the Western Mental Health Center, a non-profit community mental health clinic. Darleen taught English at nearby Cottonwood High School and later worked for Minnesota Corn Processors. In 1987, Wilbur and Darleen moved to Plymouth, Minnesota, where they lived for the past 35 years. During their time living in Plymouth, they attended Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church where Darleen played the piano from time to time.
At the time of his death, Wilbur and Darleen lived at New Perspective Senior Living in St. Paul.
Funeral Service, for Wilbur, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapels, 3888 West Broadway Ave. Robbinsdale, 55422. Visitation 1/2 hour prior to the start of service at the funeral home. Burial at Roselawn Cemetery, in Roseville, following the service.
