Wesley H. Winters

Wesley Harlan Winters, 82, of Crystal, died April 1, 2023.

He was born Oct. 10, 1940 in Floyd County, Iowa to Faith and Harlen Winters. A 1963 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in electrical engineering, Wes came to the Twin Cities in 1964 to work for Univac in the early days of the space program. He went on to be a 30+ year employee of Honeywell where he was a software engineer in the avionics division.

Wes loved spending time with his children. He supported scouting activities and never missed a recital or musical concert. He enjoyed taking walks with his kids and was always up for going on adventures with them. As a grandparent (and uncle), he was happy to introduce the youngest members of the family to card games and chess. He especially loved being a grandpa and spending time with the grandchildren.

Wes enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and had a general love and appreciation for the outdoors. He was an avid contract and duplicate bridge player and, after retirement, could usually be found afternoons at the card table with his wife of 57 years, as his favorite partner. Together they also enjoyed traveling. Their greatest adventure together was a safari in Africa in 2001, which was Wes’s dream trip.

A stage four cancer diagnosis on Feb. 26, 2023 brought a swift end to the life of this good man.

Wes is survived by wife, Lauri; son, Peter, Crystal; daughter, Sarah (Jason) Manro, Noblesville, IN; grandchildren, Melanie Manro, Luke Manro, Justin Manro; sister, Glenda Hillson, Ames, IA. sisters-in-law, Kim Bird, Lewisville, TX and Lynn (Frank) Stone, Blaine, MN, and many cousins, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers-in-law Thomas Hillson and Corey Lillestol.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3888 West Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN and one hour before the funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th St., Minneapolis, MN. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
