Virginia Kathryn Gross

Virginia Kathryn Gross (nee Clapperton), of Brooklyn Center MN, born May 25th, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. passed away at the age of 97 on April 6th, 2020.

Virginia was preceded in death by father Clarence and mother Mary, sister Evelyn Gross and brother-in-law Alois Gross, cousins Henry Neumann and Mary Volp and niece Diana Gross.

She is survived by nephews Thomas Gross (Susan), Richard Gross (Lori), Frederick Gross (Vicki), Charles Gross (Sharlott), Alois Gross, Edward Gross (Silvia), niece Elizabeth Gross and many great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces; cousins Lavonne O’Brien and Anne Weimerskirch (Arnold).

Virginia started school at Ascension Church for her early years of education. Her high school years would be spent at Glen Lake Sanatorium after being diagnosed with tuberculosis. Many fellow patients there would become lifelong friends.

Virginia worked as an executive secretary to the president of Super Valu, Inc. for 30 years. She formed the Super Valu Retirees Club. Also, she was a longtime member of (WOMHS), the Women’s Organization of Minnesota Historical Society serving as president from 1988 to 1990, and the American Swedish Institute. Virginia loved to travel having visited all 50 states and many countries. She enjoyed symphonies, antique shows, playing piano and working on her extensive stamp collection.

Virginia (“Ginny” to her family) has now traveled to her final destination and will be missed and remembered by all who loved her.

Private family services were held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minneapolis.
