Dr. Vernon R Steffens died surrounded by loved ones the morning of 12/23/2020, due to complications from Alzheimer’s.
Preceded in death by parents, Tony and Theresa; brothers, Al, Jerry; sisters, Carol Wentzell, Mary Weeks, Terry Otto; granddaughter, Bridget Thoresen.
Survived by brother, Ray (Sally) Steffens. Also survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis; children, Mary (Brian) Walters, Claudia (Kevin) McKeown, Eileen (Mike) Hachey, Jean (Pete) Thoresen, John (Mary) Steffens and Gregory Steffens. And grandchildren, Jordan, Alicia (Brylee) Callender, Anna Walters, Emily, Abby, Patrick McKeown, Scott, Stefan Hachey, Katelyn, Natalie Thoresen, Ben and Charlie Steffens; three great grandchildren.
Vern graduated DeLaSalle High School in 1952, served in the Army, attended the University of St. Thomas and graduated from the Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1962. He practiced general dentistry in north Minneapolis for 30 years. He was dedicated to his patients and lectured around the world on the advancement of dental products and procedures.
Phyllis’s love and guidance had a great influence on Vern’s life. Together they taught the importance of family, faith, hard work and treating others fairly and kindly. Vern was generous with his time, talent and love. He never knew a stranger. He had a love of the outdoors and spent many happy hours with his family and friends at the lake hunting, fishing and just puttering around.
He was much loved and will be missed dearly.

A private Mass will be held at Holy Name of Jesus, Medina MN on 12/31/2020. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
