Valerie "Rae" A. (Irvin) Jensen, age 89, of Crystal. Born May 7, 1930, passed away April 25, 2020 at Catholic Eldercare of Minneapolis. Preceded in death by her husbands, Terry Jensen and Dick Irvin; mother, Louane Boreen and father, Harlan Mellberg. Survived by children, Dick (Julie), Tim (Lois), Dave (Deb), Jerry (Janet), Dan (Joanne) Irvin and Kathryn “Trinka” (Jeff) Koperski; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harlan (Darlene) and Dale (Lynne) Mellberg; sister, Debbie George (John Radmann) ; many nieces and nephews .
Rae married Dick Irvin and they raised their family in Crystal and New Hope before separating in 1974. They were active members at St. Raphael’s where Rae headed the Rosary Society, PTA and the Drama Club and together they were Festival Chairs, fund raisers and members of the committee that built the church. Rae was a friend to all she met whether it was as a waitress at Worwa’s, Arthur’s and the Bungalow, hosting neighborhood picnics or holiday open houses, driving boys to baseball games, or bowling in leagues across the city she was always surrounded by people. Even as she battled dementia she could be found shouting out answers to trivia questions or leading a group in song at Catholic Elder Care; continuing to amaze and entertain the residents and wonderful staff there until her final days. Sharon from North Hospice and Teri from CEC led their teams’ care for Rae and were a blessing to our mother and our family, just as she was to them.
It was her time to go to God, yet we all realize life won’t be the same without her.
