Tom Pletcher, 74, of Minneapolis, passed away March 22, 2021 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN due to complications associated with a short battle with COVID-19.

Tom was born June 14, 1946 in Duluth, MN to Bill and Ruth Pletcher and graduated from Morgan Park High School. He later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University.  He was an avid reader and self taught in many areas of interest to him, including languages, and world history.  He could speak with knowledge on endless topics of interest.  He could communicate with people; he enjoyed a good conversation.

Tom was an adventurer and explored a wide range of interests - everything from rock climbing, scuba diving, running, skiing, hiking, camping, and bowhunting to genealogy, photography, building computers, and tying fishing lures. Tom had a love of traveling and traveled extensively both domestically and internationally.

Tom was a US Navy Veteran and served as a Sonar Tech on the USS Willis A Lee, from 1964-1968.  He was stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia and served in a support role for the Vietnam War, traveling throughout the Mediterranean region.  After returning from the service, Tom worked as a chemical dependency counselor at Prodigal House and the Veterans Hospital.

Tom is survived by his siblings, Claudia Maki and Bruce (Ginger) Pletcher of Duluth; his two children, Matt (Michele) Pletcher of Robbinsdale and Jennifer LaBine of Big Lake; four grandchildren, Sophie, Kate, Marilyn, and Paul; his niece and nephew, Carrie Maki and Michael Maki of Duluth; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church of Plymouth on Saturday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m.  Please note that masks are required.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s name can be made to The Sierra Club Foundation .
