age 75, of Plymouth, MN, passed away on April 9, 2025, after an extended illness. Thomas was born on April 10, 1949, in Superior, WI to loving parents Maurice and Beverly (Rawn) Pierce. He graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1967, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1973 after two years of service in Vietnam, and married his college sweetheart, Sheila (Groves) Pierce, on August 11, 1973. He and Sheila share a daughter, Sarah (Casey) Behl, whose two children, Vanessa and Aiden, brought joy and laughter to his life. Tom’s partner later in life, Leslie Dalbec, brought him companionship and was a part of the family.
Tom’s life was marked by many historic moments and personal milestones. In 1969, Tom enrolled in the Army’s Buddy Plan for Vietnam with close friend, Tom Wiisanen, who recalls one of the best days of his life being an unexpected visit in Vietnam from none other than Tom. As with many others, Tom’s presence always lightened the mood and brightened spirits.
Tom’s role in the war was critical. He was the driver and aide to the commander of military operations in Vietnam, General Creighton Abrams. After being discharged in 1971 and graduating from college, Tom established a strong career in pharmaceutical sales and then advanced as a stockbroker in Minneapolis. He worked in the industry for nearly four decades, retiring from Van Clemens Financial in 2018.
Tom was known for his ability to spin a good yarn, his love of family and pets, and the inimitable sound of his laugh. Tom could often be found with a child, dog, or cat on his lap—sometimes all three at once—while sharing a story from the old days. His compelling personality and generous nature meant he never met a stranger, and thus he was surrounded by a constellation of people (and critters) who were loved by him and who enriched his life.
Preceding Tom in death are his parents. He is survived by partner, Leslie Dalbec; daughter, Sarah (Casey) Behl; grandchildren, Vanessa and Aiden; and a large and loving family of siblings; Terrance (Mary) Pierce, Maureen (Daniel) Conroy, Mark (Karen) Pierce, Susie Pierce, and Todd (Patty) Pierce; along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, as well as numerous friends.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23 followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel in Robbinsdale (763-537-4511). A private interment with military honors will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the nonprofit animal rescue organization of your choice.
