Theresia died peacefully in her sleep Sept. 16, 2015 of Alzheimer's. Born at home in Assebroek, Belgium on Feb. 4, 1936. Theresia often bragged that she was 1 hour older than her twin sister, Marthe. She came to the USA in 1968 to be the Nanny to 3 wonderful girls after the death of their mother. She was their parent, friend, teacher and role model; family was important to her. Theresia was employed and retired after 25 years from Sears, and she was the "lunch lady" at Oakwood Elementary School. She was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus in Medina parish for 39 years. Her favorite pastime was quilting with the church quilt group; she helped make over 1,000 quilts that were donated to the needy. Theresia also volunteered at the annual church rummage sale; she was an avid baker, sewer and quilter. Survived by her USA family, Amy Anderson, Rose (Kent) Bast, Cindy (Jeff) Tague, Patrick Deruytter; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo, Jan, Tjeef; sisters, Ljeve, Trude, Annie, Marthe, Greit; many nieces and nephews, all of Belgium. Preceded in death by her parents; stepdad; 2 sisters; and longtime companion, Thomas Deruytter. Thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Pioneer Cottages of Breckenridge and the wonderful caregivers through hospice for the loving care Theresia received for the past 14 months.
