Steven Ross Camp

Steven Ross Camp of Crystal, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of October 9, 2022. His beloved wife, Pat, was by his side, as she has been for the past 22 years.

Steve was born May 29, 1945 in Malad, Idaho to Wendell Draper Camp and Chloe Blanche Benson Camp. He was the fourth of six children and learned to work hard and serve others from a very early age. He had a zest for life, learning, travel, getting to know other people, and a deep and abiding love for his family and his Savior, Jesus Christ. As a young man, the world seemed to be his oyster. He received a four-year, full ride scholarship to Harvard, but he turned it down in order to attend the Weaver Airline Personnel School of Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he left Idaho and made his way to Chicago where he worked at O’Hare Airport on the tarmac guiding planes. He married Arlena Maathuis in 1967 and together they had five children. He felt that he was the father of the five most wonderful children in the world. Most of their married years were spent in Palatine, Illinois. Sadly, their marriage ended in divorce. He was fortunate to meet, court and marry Patricia Banken Dondelinger Scott in 2000. He dearly loved Pat and the life they built together in Minnesota.

Steve was a faithful, life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He honored the covenants and promises he made to the Lord. Steve was something of a gospel scholar; he loved to read and study the scriptures and learn more about his Savior. He was privileged as a young man to serve a mission for the Church in West Virginia - which he used to call the only foreign mission in the US. Throughout his life, Steve served in various capacities in the church, but he may be remembered most for his willingness to get to know people, invite them into his home - and that he would always help clean up, no matter the function or his role in it.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children Bobi (Brian) Taylor, Robyn (Kevin Kubarycz) Camp, Jonathan (Teri) Camp, son-in-law, Greg Spencer, Amy Camp, Charles “Chuck” Dondelinger, Joseph Michael (Heidi) Dondelinger, DeAndra Virginia Scott, Andrew Scott, Jonathan Daniel Scott; sisters Sharon Butler and Gail Prestwich; 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Blanche Camp; brother Dean Camp, sisters Lois Evans and Cheryl Forsberg; his daughter, Heather Spencer; and daughter-in-law, Danielle Scott.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 28 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2801 Douglas Dr. N., Crystal, MN 55422. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
