Stephen Schmidt

Stephen Schmidt, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Steve's warmth, kindness, and infectious joy touched the lives of all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; children David, Ellen (Jack), and step-children Erik (Noelle), Karen (Dan), and Mark (Neil), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Marie, and his siblings, Robert and Virginia.

Steve grew up in northeast Minneapolis and graduated from De La Salle High School in 1950. He later joined the Christian Brothers and earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education from St. Mary's University in Winona, MN. Throughout his career, Steve taught high school in Wheaton, IL, and at De La Salle in Minneapolis, MN. He also served as assistant principal at Benilde High School in St. Louis Park, MN, and spent the final 27 years of his teaching career at Cooper Senior High School, retiring in 1994.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Steve enjoyed hiking, biking, and fishing at the lake, as well as traveling with Audrey and volunteering at Prism. His life was marked by a deep commitment to family, a passion for his community, and a zest for living that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, with a visitation one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve's memory to Prism in Golden Valley.
