Stephanie Karen Matz went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 4, 2025, at 4:30 pm. She was surrounded by family worshiping God at her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Stephanie was born in San Francisco, California, on February 12, 1948. She lived with her parents and siblings in California until she was 13, when she moved with her father and older sister to Hawaii, where she lived until she was 18. At 18, she returned to California, where she met her first husband; they had two children: Sonya and Duane. Many years later, that marriage ended. Then, she met and married her second husband, Patrick Matz. Together, they had three children: Chelsea, Charlotte, and Stephanie Dawn. After three years of marriage, Stephanie, Patrick, and their five children moved to Washington state to be closer to Patrick's family. Once they arrived in Everett, WA, they quickly found a new Church home, where they had been active for nine years. As a Sunday school teacher, Stephanie helped run a homeless ministry and participated in Christmas and Easter programs. Nine years after they moved to Washington, Stephanie Patrick and their three younger children moved to Elbow Lake, MN. Stephanie participated in church leadership at Lakeview Assembly of God and in many community activities advocating for people with special needs. In the spring of 2003, Stephanie, Patrick, Sonya, and the granddaughter Tessa moved to Alexandria, MN, where they resided until 2009. In 2009, Stephanie and her husband, Patrick, moved to Edina, MN, to assist their daughter, Chelsea, and care for her son with special needs. In 2018, Stephanie and her husband purchased a house in Minneapolis, MN, where she lived until she passed away.
Stephanie Matz is survived by Sonya, Duane(Suzzane), Chelsea(Paul), Charlotte, and Stephanie Dawn (Jacob), as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her younger brother Bob, her older sister Judy, and younger sister Lori.
