Stella M. (Penttinen) Arola
Stella Margaret (Penttinen) Arola of Crystal, MN passed away on December 20, 2021. She was born March 17, 1934 in Shell Lake Township to William and Mary Penttinen. She was the eldest of four children. Stella attended Shell Lake country school and graduated from Frazee High School in 1952. After graduation Stella moved to Minneapolis and worked as a legal secretary for Fred Lange. She continued working with Kinney & Lange for over 40 years until her retirement in 1999.
Stella married Harvey R Arola on July 5, 1953. They made their home in Crystal MN and raised three sons. Stella loved learning and would read a variety of books. She sewed many pieces of clothing for her family and herself, and many household accessories. Stella enjoyed traveling, especially to Finland, where she met many relatives. Stella and Harvey made eleven trips to Finland. Stella enjoyed bus tours and cruises. Several winters spent with friends and relatives in FL, TX, and AZ. She was an active member of Finnish American Cultural Activities Society (FACA). Stella spoke, read, and wrote fluent Finnish. Stella and Harvey were instrumental members of building their church, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, and have been faithful members through life.
Stella is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harvey Arola, children Bruce (Kerry) Arola, Carver MN, Jeff (Rita) Arola, Detroit Lakes MN. Grandchildren, Erek, Kyle, Melissa, Brian (Erin) and Matthew; great grandson, Dominik; sister, Edith Boos, Brooklyn Park, brother, Richard Penttinen, Detroit Lakes; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary; son, David, and brother, Edwin.
Memorial service Monday (12/27), 11 am with visitation starting at 10 am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 5005 Northwest Blvd, Plymouth MN. Internment Gethsemane Lutheran Cemetery, Snellman MN, at a later date. Memorials preferred to Beautiful Savior Church.
