Sigurd “Tom” Ivesdal, 77, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2020 at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis with his son and daughter at his side.
Tom was born September 24, 1943 in Devils Lake to Sigurd and Olive (Thorson) Ivesdal, growing up on a farm near Hampden. He graduated from Edmore High School in 1961. Following graduation, Tom enlisted in a four-year term of service in the Navy spending his time on the USS Ranger (CV-61). Upon discharge he received the Good Conduct Award, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service medal and a Vietnam Service medal with one bronze star.
Tom attended University of Minnesota for engineering and entered the work force at Ecolab as an electrical engineer, displaying a wonderful knack for math and problem-solving. Tom was a man of loyalty, integrity and intelligence. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures like spending time with his children & grandchildren and his daily pre-supper beer with the guys at the VFW.
Tom was a die-hard sports fan. He LOVED the Vikings and Gopher football & basketball and was extremely competitive with his Sunday picks. He especially loved going toe to toe game day with his Green Bay Packer friends east of the border.
Tom is survived by his son, Randy Ivesdal (Nikki), Big Lake, MN; daughter, Kerri Ivesdal, St Louis Park, MN; four grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Taylor, Tanya (Blake); five grand-dogs, Diesel, Eva, Taco, Scout & Finn; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sheldon Ivesdal; sisters, Ione Werner and Carolyn Thorson; nephew, Edwin Werner.
As a Military Veteran, Sigurd will be buried with honors at Fort Snelling Cemetery on November 5th at 1:30PM. Following we will celebrate Dad’s life at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home, 3888 West Broadway, Robbinsdale MN 55422 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on Thursday November 5th to reminisce, grieve, support each other and of course, just chat. Casual dress code— feel-free to wear your favorite Gopher or Viking gear.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at North Memorial Hospital for their constant, attentive treatment of our Dad. They treated us like family and we are so grateful they were the ones watching over our Dad.
