Sheldon Lee Miller was born in Des Moines, Iowa, August 2, 1937. His battle with 7 forms of cancer ended on June 1, 2019 at his home in Plymouth, Minnesota.
Sheldon lived with his parents Daniel and Florence at various placed in and around Des Moines until graduating from Newton High School in 1956. In 1953 at the age of 16, he read the book, The Unpardonable Sin, by R. C. Zartman. As this book unpacked numerous biblical texts, Sheldon heard the gospel for the first time and placed his saving trust in Jesus Christ’s death to pay the penalty of his sin, and in Christ’s life-giving resurrection. Sprinkled as an infant, Sheldon was later immersed into the membership of Central Free Church in downtown Minneapolis by Dr. Richard Elvee, former president of Northwestern College.
Sheldon graduated from Northwestern in 1961 with a degree in Bible. In 1966 he earned the Master of Divinity degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary of Minneapolis where Dr. Richard V. Clearwaters became the most influential man in his life, joining Sheldon’s father Dan, father-in-law Reuben, and British evangelist and close friend, Billy Strachan, of the Torch Bearer movement. Sheldon served pastorates for 30 years in WI, IN, PA, and MN. He also operated Miller’s Tree Service in the West Metro for 30 years, earning arborist certification from the state of Minnesota as well as the respect of many loyal customers.
Sheldon married Arliss (nee Fratzke), whom he met at Northwestern College, and they enjoyed 58 years of devoted friendship in marriage. They had two sons, Daniel (Beth) and Stephen, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Sheldon is survived by his wife Arliss, sisters Cheryle Sackett (Phillip, deceased) and Norma Bennett (James), and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his father Daniel, mother Florence, younger brother Russell (Dorothy, deceased), and numerous unborn children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he greatly anticipated meeting in glory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to WCTS radio or Fourth Baptist Christian School.
