Sewell J. Mathre, 94, of Maple Grove, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016.
Interment at Fort Snelling at 1:45 PM.
Sewell was born in Vancouver, B. C. in 1922 to Rev. Lawrence and Nellie Mathre. Raised in IA, he graduated from Estherville HS and Waldorf College before serving as an Army meteorology officer in WW II. He earned an architecture degree from Iowa State and his master’s from Cranbrook.
He moved to Northfield, MN in 1953 and became a principle partner in SMSQ Architects in a 40+ yr career that specialized in church architecture, residential homes and contributions to numerous college campuses.
Sewell was an active member of his church, city and golf club. He retired in 1993 and pursed his passions for golf, family and spending time at his Lutsen cabin.
Sewell is survived by his wife Donna, children Kristen Willson (Gig) of Maple Grove, Karin Kispert (Scott) of Burnsville, and Steve Mathre (Lisa) of Northfield, grandchildren Zach and Jake Willson, Ali and Kyle Kispert, Austin Mathre, Halle and Harrison Dowd.
