Roy was born and raised in Stockport, Cheshire, England, he experienced World War II as a very young child. Growing up he played cricket and also enjoyed train spotting as a lad.
In 1964 Roy transferred to the U.S. from England. After working in Minneapolis for a while, he moved to Toronto, Canada, and on a return visit to see former co-workers, he met Fern, the love of his life in 1967. She had recently started working for the same company. After a two-week courtship, Roy returned to Toronto. Letters and phone calls connected them and they were married three months later at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, MN on Fern’s birthday, December 23, 1967.
Roy was a Flour Milling Engineer, employed by Buhler, Inc. for over 30 years.
A strong love of travel, they returned to England many times. A month-long trip to Europe and England with friends, was a highlight. They enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US and Canada plus sailing on six cruises. The couple lived in Canada, Minnesota, USA and England over the years.
Roy’s sports interests included tennis, bowling and ice fishing. But he really enjoyed going to casinos which included many trips to Las Vegas. He loved the challenge and thrill of winning. Throughout their life, there wasn’t any project or task Roy couldn’t do. From home repairs and daily tasks to helping family and his many favored charities. Animal charities were high on his list and he was known to feed feral cats while vacationing.
Roy was a very kind and generous man who will be truly missed by his friends and family in the U.S., Canada and England.
After living a content life, he passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side at 81 years of age.
A service will be held in the Spring of 2021 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove at the Columbarium & Scattering Garden.
