Ronald David Smart

Ronald David, age 85, of Golden Valley, died Friday, March 31, 2017. Born May 21, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN,  He was the son of the late John (Jack) and Muriel (Hill) Smart.

Ron attended Dunwoody Institute and also served in the Air Force as a Navigator where he met his wife, a flight nurse, Rosemarie Stockton and they married in 1965.  Together they raised eight children while he worked as a draftsman and served in the Air National Guard. Ron was a loving husband and supportive father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included building model airplanes, collecting antique trains and watching the Indianapolis 500. He especially loved taking vacations up north, telling stories about the military and growing up in North Minneapolis. He could always be counted on for his quick wit, and contagious laugh.

He is survived by wife, Rosie; children, Marie (Mark) Treichel, David (Jill), James (Megan Kelly), Susan (Andrew) Peters, Robert (Angela), Margaret (Bruce) Ladwig, Kathleen (Tim) Hane; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smart; 20 grandchildren; sister, Audrey Smart.

Preceded in death by son, Richard Smart; brother, William Smart.

Funeral Friday, April 7, 2017,  11 am at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 West Broadway, with 10 am visitation.

Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Memorials to American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer Research.
