Roman was born April 6, 1932 in Rock Falls, WI to Roman Sr. and Clara. As the oldest son he helped on the family farm until joining the Air Force in 1952. He married the love of his life, Virginia Marie Bates on August 18, 1954. He earned his GED during the Air Force and later went on to earn his degree as an Electronic Technician. They moved from Mondovi, WI and made their home of 52 years in Marion, IA. Roman worked as an Electronic Test Technician on various avionic instrument and control equipment for 32 years at Collins Radio – Rockwell International.
Roman was a humble servant of the Lord, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus and in many capacities at church, school and within the community. He was gifted with the ability to repair any, and all appliances, cars, motorized equipment and household items. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially gardening, camping, fishing and hunting with family and friends. Roman was an adoring and devoted husband who delighted in growing roses to give to Virginia. He loved his children and grandchildren and cherished spending time with them and was always eager to help with projects and support in any way he could.
After retiring they spent 18 winter seasons in Arizona. In the company of new friends, Roman led hiking trips through the mountains, enjoyed billiards, dancing and playing cards and games. He also enjoyed woodworking and making special gifts for his children and grandchildren. Roman and Virginia made the move from Iowa to Minnesota five years ago. As with everywhere they went, they made many new friends and Roman continued to touch many lives through his innate gift and love for helping others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
