Roland Curtis Amundson age 68 of Edina, was received into our Lord’s hands, peacefully on Thursday, Nov 16, 2017 following a long battle with diabetes.
He was well traveled and had an eventful life that touched the lives of many. Roland was born to Elaine and Curtis Amundson on July 29, 1949 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. Survived by sisters, Kris Osgood and Mary Amundson Campbell. He graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, The University of Notre Dame with a law degree and a divinity degree from the University of Chicago.
Rollie has always been connected to his Lutheran and Norwegian heritage. He came back to Minnesota and was a youth pastor and minister with the LCA synod and then began his legal career. Rollie was in private practice from 1975-1988, was on the faculty at William Mitchell College of Law and St Catherine’s and was active in DFL politics. In 1988 he was appointed a Hennepin County District Judge and in 1991 was appointed a Judge on the Minnesota State Court of Appeals, by Governor Perpich.
Roland is survived by Mark Letourneau, companion of 29 years and co-parent of their 4 sons, Christian, Erik, Michael and Andrew . Rollie and Mark adopted their boys from Russia in the aftermath of the Soviet Union's collapse.
Roland was a board member of The American Swedish Institute, the Sons of Norway and a member of the Torske Klubben , a Norwegian Club. He was awarded numerous times for his public service and loved spending time with his immediate and extended family. He had a keen sense of humor and a sharp mind. Passionate for art, music, and literature he loved throwing family parties and telling stories. Rollie always loved education. When he wasn't learning he was teaching. He was everyone's teacher and he will be forever missed.
