Roger (Pete) Schmidt passed away in his beloved maple woods in Plymouth, Minnesota. He was born on a 160-acre farm near Hamel and lived in the area his entire life.
Pete adored his wife Kay, who preceded him in death by twenty years. His life was guided by a strong set of values including equality and respect for all people and the preservation of nature. He created and exemplified a strong sense of community in Hamel, amongst his family and in his neighborhood on Holly Lane. There is not a soul who met Pete that wasn’t offered a homegrown vegetable from his prolific garden, a hearty hello and a smile, or an offer to explore the maple woods. His loving persona and ease of joy and laughter warmed those around him. Pete loved people and stayed young at heart by meeting neighbors, small and tall, as they walked, ran or biked past his house.
Pete was a military veteran, successful business owner, talented craftsman, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and consummate volunteer for church, school and community. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Ann Jacobs, his daughter Angela Cabrera (Douglas), his parents Gordon and Ival, and his siblings Hugh Schmidt, Oreta Gray, Marvel Miller and Ival Fleming. He is survived by his brother Gordy (Katie), his children Julia Piper (John), Paula Weber (Jim), David (Beth), Steven (Cindy), and Heidi Boyd (Scott). He was immensely proud of his grandchildren Katie (Mark), Clare, Thomas, Marielos, Nicholas, Ellie, JonCarlo, Evyn, Hayley, Noah, Casey, and Eli and great grandchildren Eliza and James Puetz.
