Roger was born and raised in Benson where he followed the family tradition (in the footprints) of farming alongside his father. He loved his brothers and sisters and enjoyed his time hunting and fishing with his family.  Roger served in the Air Force where he met the love of his life, Susie.  They married on September 11, 1965 and celebrated 54 years of being happily married. Together they raised 3 beautiful children on the family farm. He was an active member in the community and began his long journey living in service to others.  They moved to New Hope in 1987 where he became a proud standing member of the community. He worked for the City of Maple Grove until his retirement. He and Susie joined Elim Lutheran Church and became an integral part of the Elim family. He devoted his time to the church, became involved with Men’s club, assisted with funerals, and helped and aided in the church events.

Roger used his woodworking skills to bring joy to many people through his crosses, bird houses, wood cars and many other woodcrafts. He loved National Day Out where he and Susie would host the neighborhood get together. He used his walks as a way to interact with people and make new friends. He never met a stranger. He had a love for children and they always took to him. His favorite times around the house was with family, being in his garden and tinkering in his woodshop. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion which he was proud to be part of such a special community.

With his passing we have lost a light in this world. He truly made a difference in this world and we are all better for having known him.
