Rodney Lee Dachel
"Rod"
Age 83 of Golden Valley. A very faithful man went home to the Lord on December 14, 2018. Born and raised in Eau Claire, WI to Fred and Tess Dachel. A proud graduate of St. John’s University where he majored in Accounting, was an ROTC member and played center for Johnnie’s basketball. While at SJU the nuns at the College of St. Benedict set him up on a blind date with Suzanne Welch who became the love of his life and married June 7, 1958.
Rod gladly served his country in the ROTC, the US Army and retired Lt. Col. with the Army Reserve. He worked with General Mills for 35 years. Never one to be idle, after retirement Rod and Suzanne continued to be active with their community, family and church always wanting to help others. They also enjoyed traveling and spending time at their lake home in Waverly.
Rod will be welcomed in heaven by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Suzanne; sons, Thomas and David; daughter, MaryTeresa (Bennett) Byker; grandchildren, Drew (Ruby) Dachel, Jessica Dachel and Thomas Baker; many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 am Thursday, December 20 at St. Mary of the Lake Church, 105 Forestview Lane in Plymouth. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at church. Interment Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope.
Rod was truly the most kind and selfless man.
