Robert Joseph Kelly
age 82, of Minnetonka, died peacefully at home on September 5, 2018, surrounded by his family and his beloved dog, Finnegan.
Bob was born on October 25, 1935 to Thomas and Mary Laurine Kelly in Iowa City, Iowa. He was the third out of nine children. His family later moved to Rantoul, Illinois where his father worked at nearby Chanute Air Force base. Bob graduated from Rantoul Township High School and attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, graduating with a degree in Business. He was hired right away by United Parcel Service where he worked for 33 years in management and Personnel.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Doberneck on June 21, 1958. Together, Bob and Dottie raised five children: Kim (Joel) Christianson of Corcoran; Lisa Kelly (Marc Osborn) of Santa Barbara; Lori (Kevin) O’Connor of Plymouth; Edward (Amy) Kelly of St. Paul; Robert Kelly Jr., and Kim Berg (Patty Feulner).
Bob was very proud of his 12 grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica), Jared (Stephanie), Jeremy (Ashley), Reycel, Ivelyn, and Reniel Christianson; Alison, and Daniel Mastain; Ryan (Abbey), and Kelly O’Connor; and Jack and Kate Kelly.
His ten great-grandchildren: Ethan Anderson, Jack Oaks, and Harvey Christianson (Joshua); Gabe, Ben, and Joe Christianson (Jared); Gavin, Olivia, and Amelia Christianson (Jeremy); and Maddison O’Connor (Ryan).
Bob had many accomplishments in his life, but he was most proud of his family. Bob and Dottie were very active in St. Therese parish in Deephaven, and the church was a big part of their lives. After retirement, Bob spent his days in service to others. He was involved in many volunteer activities, too numerous to mention but ranging from tutoring students at Sabathani Community center, to working at Second Harvest Food shelf. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and his annual fishing trips to Canada.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Robbie, his sister, Lucille, and brothers, Edward, and Richard, and niece, Michaelene.
