Robert L. Dungan, 82, of Plymouth, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 of renal failure and complications of COVID-19. Bob was born June 12, 1937 to Leo L. Dungan and Anna (Bennett) Dungan in Superior, WI. Leo said he finally got his boy and what a boy he was.
When Bob was two years old, his father took over a new territory introducing Folgers Coffee and moved the family of four girls and one boy to Waterloo, Iowa. Bob grew up there and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated in 1955. He played football and added his good singing voice to the high school operettas. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) for one year. In 1959 Bob and Judy Hoeg were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa.
Bob began his sales career in the food industry with Standard Brands so the family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1963. In 1965 he went to work for 3M Company’s Business Products Sales Incorporated division until 1969. That year the family moved to Minneapolis. He worked for Paul Brink Associates printing company and after two years went back to 3M. Bob retired after 30 years from 3M’s Microfilm Systems Division. After retiring from 3M he then went to work for P. H. Brink International selling language translation service for a few more years.
Bob was a member of the Fr. William Blum K of C Council #3656. He and his family were long time members of St. Austin Catholic Church in North Minneapolis until moving to Plymouth.
Bob enjoyed travels and he and Judy made many trips to Mexico and upon full retirement, they would spend 3 months each winter in Florida. But best of all, they loved going to Ireland and visiting Bob’s Dunphy relatives who live in Mooncoin. Sometimes they even stayed with the Jamie and Cindy Dunphy family on their dairy farm.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Eileen Koch and Bernadine Ackerman of Waterloo and Patricia Rotsaert of Dahlgren, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 61 years, four children: Kathleen (Bill) Lundeen, of Onamia, MN; Julie (Scott) Burkland, of Ramsey, MN; Greg (Carrie Wolken) of Otsego, MN; Laura (Chris) Imig, of Elk River, MN.
