Robert Dale Dischinger, age 93 of Fridley, Minnesota, passed gently into the arms of Jesus on February 11, 2024.
Robert was born to Otto and Ruth Dischinger in Tonawanda, New York on October 3, 1930. In 1932, Robert moved with his parents and siblings to Minneapolis, Minnesota and later, Golden Valley. Robert's work ethic was evident even in his youth, as he spent much of his time helping friends and family with various construction and farming jobs. In 1948, Robert joined the United States Navy, bravely serving his country in the Korean war aboard the USS Mansfield and USS Midway.
In 1950, the course of Robert's life was changed forever when he was unexpectedly introduced to his wife Pearl while enjoying a simple meal at the White Castle restaurant on Lake Street. Robert and Pearl were united in marriage in 1951 and their home would soon grow to include seven much-loved children. In their 72 years of marriage, Robert and Pearl would be blessed with 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson, earning Robert his most well-known title of "Papa Bob."
Robert was the very definition of a "renaissance man". Whether tinkering on a new invention in his garage, learning to use the computer (the first on his block!), or leafing through a stack of Popular Mechanics magazines, Robert was always thinking of new and innovative ways to make the lives of his loved ones a little bit easier.
Robert's final days were spent deeply enveloped in the love of his wife and children. Robert's family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers, Allina Hospice, and the medical providers at Unity Hospital for the exceptional care and peace they provided as Robert gained eternal rest.
Robert is proceeded in death by son, Phil Dischinger; son-in-law, Larrie McCue; and brothers, Lloyd, Bill and Damian. He is survived by loving wife, Pearl Dischinger; children, Bob Dischinger, Ruth Davenport (Doug), Cindy Bellows (Don), Rita McCue, Sharon Foy (Mike), and Becky Ellis (Tony); Phil's partner, Lori Kittelson; siblings, Betty Butts, Dorothy Butts, Otto Dischinger and Mike Dischinger; sister-in-law, Bonnie Dischinger; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 27, 2024, at 10:30am at the Church of St. Williams located at 6120 5th St N.E. Fridley, MN. Visitation will occur one hour prior. Interment will follow at 2:00pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery located at 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN.
