Rita Barker, 79, passed away on February 2, 2025, in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, surrounded by the love of her three daughters.
Born on March 7, 1945, in Tyler, Minnesota, Rita lived a life devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found immense joy in supporting her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Barker, her mother Dorothy Radke, and her brother, Ronald Radke.
Rita is survived by her three daughters: Robin (Todd) Thorsen, Holly (Marc) Paul, and Megan (Joshua) Shea. She was also a proud grandmother to Skyler and Cole Thorsen, Dalton and Ashland Paul, and Kara and Hadey Shea. Her unwavering support for her family was evident in the way she never missed any of her daughters' swim meets over two decades—from their first moments treading water through high school and college competitions.
One of the most cherished traditions Rita created was her annual Christmas Eve party. Over the years, she welcomed neighbors, close friends, and family into her home to celebrate the season. Some traveled from across the country to be part of the festivities. Santa always made time in his busy schedule to visit, delighting children with gifts and leading everyone in Christmas carols. The white elephant gift exchange—often accompanied by laughter and a few cocktails—made each gathering unforgettable. Though Rita will be deeply missed, her presence will always be felt during Christmas celebrations.
Rita’s dedication to her family and the memories she created with them will be cherished forever. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
