Richard H. Nathe

Richard Henry Nathe, 73, of St. Louis Park, MN passed away on June 8, 2018 after a battle with cancer.

Richard was born in Sauk Centre, MN on May 25, 1945.  He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1963 and later went on to Dunwoody Institute where he completed training to become a machinist.

Richard was married to Jean Hasser on December 30, 1967.  They had celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary this past year.

Richard worked as a machinist for Dayton Rogers (later Dayton Die Cushions) for more than 40 years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family especially if it involved sports, fishing and being at the lake.

Richard was the kind of husband who would go with you to three or four grocery stores in a morning just so that you could use all of your coupons.  He was the kind that, in return, would take you to Menards, not looking for anything in particular, just perusing the aisles together.

He was the kind of brother with whom you raced cars down main street; with whom you spent time as a teenager and taught his kids how to smack bubbles with their bubble gum.

He was the kind of dad who coached your soccer, basketball and baseball teams, who participated in neighborhood football games.  He was the kind who would let you borrow his tools.  Better yet, he would be the first in line to help you with whatever project you were working on (knowing that you might repay him by hitting one of his fingers with a staple gun).  He was the kind that would drive across the country to lend you a hand when needed.

He was the kind of grandpa and great-grandpa who would sit in the stands, regardless of how hot or cold or uncomfortable it was, to cheer you on at your football or baseball game or swim meet; who would give you a “snake bite” or a big hug whenever the opportunity arose.  He was the kind that would put the bait on your hook and take the fish off when you caught one.

Richard was one of a kind!

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children Becky (David) Iverson, Pam (Rodger) Coppa, Bob (Erika) Nathe and Matt (Laura) Nathe; grandchildren, Courtney, Mackenzie, Landon, Isabella, Rodger, Kaitlin, Luke, Madison, Emma and Owen; great-granddaughter, Audrey; sisters and brothers, Dorothy Mae (Kenneth) Klaphake, Tom (Jean) Nathe, Geraldyn Dirkes, Mike (Maria) Nathe, Mary (Denny) Rieland, Mark (Sue) Nathe, John (Marilyn) Nathe, Ronnie Nathe and Laura Muehlenhardt; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by granddaughter, Bailey Coppa; parents, Agnes and Arnold Nathe; sister and brothers, Joyce Rutherford, Kenneth and Paul Nathe; and other relatives.
