Phyllis M Snustad

Phyllis Snustad, of Medina, passed away at home under hospice care on Oct 12, 2019 at age 88. Phyllis was the second of eight children born to her Norwegian mother and French Canadian father in Stephen, MN. Phyllis attended the nearby country school her first eight years, then boarded in town to attend high school. After graduation, she attended Bemidji State Teachers College, obtaining her A.A. degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began with a 1 st Grade position in Thief River Falls and continued through the years in various places as she obtained a bachelor’s degree and then later obtained her certification in Special Education.

Phyllis met Bob at college in Bemidji. They married in Stephen, MN.  They moved to New Hope in 1959. After raising her daughters, Bobbie and Julie, she went back to teaching, retiring in 1992. After retirement, she volunteered with elementary school children. Phyllis lived a full and happy life, giving generously of her time and talents. She was active with church, golf leagues, book clubs, bridge groups, quilting, and the Medina Ridge Community.

Preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents Oscar Carpenter and Ingrid Nelson Carpenter; brothers Allen, Robert and John; brother-in-law Charles Wall; sisters Shirley Carpenter and Ardys Wall.  Survived by daughters Bobbie (Rob) Kuchta and Julie (Mike) Johansen; grandchildren Matt (Mandy Little) Kuchta, Phil (Maggie) Bangert, Megan (Nick) Robertson,  Eric Bangert; great-grandchildren Caitlyn and Taylor Bangert, Lilly and Greta Robertson, Finn Kuchta; sisters Harriet (Lloyd) Rygg and Ann (Tom) Walski; sisters-in-law Peggy Carpenter and Melanie Carpenter; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial Service 11:00 am, Saturday, Oct. 19 at House of Hope Lutheran Church, 4800 Boone Ave. N. in New Hope.  Visitation 5-7 pm Friday and 1 hour prior to service also at church.  Private Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials to American Cancer Society or to an organization of your choice that supports children and literacy.
