Paul was born to Raymond H. Sholtz and Frances Babcock Sholtz on December 15, 1930 in Oneida, NY. He married Katherine Junnila on August 30, 1952, and is survived by daughter, Karen Sholtz (Brian Cuthbertson) of Austin, TX; son, Peter Sholtz (Jane) of Hopkins, MN; and granddaughters, Laura and Lisa Sholtz.
Paul earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois. He served in the United States Navy from 1952-1957. He worked for IBM from 1957 to 1990, in Yorktown and Poughkeepsie, NY, Rochester, MN and ended his IBM career at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. After Paul retired from IBM, Paul and Katie moved to Cupertino, CA, where Paul worked for Adobe Systems and they were able to explore the west coast. They moved to their retirement home in Plymouth, MN in 1993.
Paul had many interests, including music and photography. He played the oboe in the Rochester (MN) Symphony and the recorder in a group for many years. Paul and Katie were avid travelers, visiting 7 continents and over 70 countries. He made professional quality videos and slide shows of their travels which they presented to local community and civic organizations.
Paul was an avid member of the Plymouth Pedalers Biking Club, served on the Steering Committee, and was a ride leader for many years. He was looking forward to the start of the 2016 season.
He was devoted to his family and to his church. He served as the “computer guy” at St. Barnabas for many years and also helped many of his neighbors at Covenant Village with their computer and technology questions.
