Paul D. Schliesman, 91, of Golden Valley, passed away peacefully on August, 13, 2020.
Loving husband to Martha, father to five children, grandfather to nineteen, and great-grandfather to six.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on September 16th at 10:30 AM at St Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. Please contact a family member for additional details on the service. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mabelle Schliesman, his sisters Darlene Schliesman and Helen Tostenson, and his grandson Michael Paul Franke.
Paul was born in Wilmot, SD to Mabelle and Paul John Schliesman on March 1st, 1929. He grew up in Milbank, SD and then graduated from the University of South Dakota. He married Martha Kolodge on May 11th, 1957 in Minneapolis. His career as a Trust Officer with First National Bank spanned 35 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Paul didn’t just attend, he organized and led. He was involved for many years with Rotary Club International, coached youth athletics in Golden Valley, and served on many Catholic parish boards. He served as a board member for the Leach Charitable Trust, and as the Chairman of the Hallett Charitable Trusts for the last 30 years.
From his youth he enjoyed pheasant hunting in South Dakota with family and was an avid gardener always canning the surplus and baking his famous peach pies and banana bread.
Paul is survived by Martha, his wife of 63 years, his brothers Don Schliesman, Bern (Teresa) Schliesman and Ken (Mary) Schliesman, his children Jan (Bob) Franke, Judy (Jeff) Stout, Paul “Jay” (Kathy) Schliesman, John Schliesman and Dave (Sarah) Schliesman, 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Paul’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many healthcare workers who lovingly supported him during his illness.
