On December 1, 2019 loving husband, father and grandpa, Patrick George Grant better known as ‘Captain’ ‘Big Shot’ & ‘G-Pops’, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69 in Champlin, MN. Pat was born in Minneapolis on July 11, 1950.
Born and raised in North Minneapolis he was a true ‘Northsider’ and from an early age Pat made and kept many friends throughout his life. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School class of 1968. Pat began his long successful career with the City of Mpls in 1972 until his retirement in 2011. He worked in many departments before he ended his career in the Traffic Dept. Pat married his wife Dee Dee in 1976, raised two children, Lindsey and Jake. Pat was a Minnesota sports fan, the true definition of a ‘Homer’! He especially loved hockey, once a player himself, he continued his passion for hockey by coaching his own son for many years and was happy to share his knowledge with his grandsons who play. Pat’s presence lit up every room he entered with his personality, like one of the great ships entering the Duluth harbor, which he was so fond of watching, his distinct voice (no microphone necessary), his sense of humor, his stories, and most importantly his heart. We are all so grateful to have had him in our lives…he will be forever in our hearts. “Sail away Captain Buddy”
Pat is preceded in death by his mother Eleanor and father Arley ‘Pat’. He is survived by his loving wife Dee Dee, his daughter Lindsey (Tim) Reil and their sons Jason and Brandon, his son Jake (Missy) Grant and their daughters Faith and Olivia, his brothers Mark (Carol) Grant, Jeff (Sharon) Grant, his four nieces, and many other relatives and friends.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday December 11th at the Gearty-Delmore-Plymouth Funeral Chapel Inc. located at 15800 37 th Avenue North, Plymouth, MN 55446 from 2-4pm followed by a Celebration of Life at Sundance Golf Course located at 15240 113 th Avenue North, Maple Grove, MN 55369 from 5-8pm.
