Patricia Ann Kaiser, 88, of St Louis Park, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on June 23, 2024.
She was born in Minneapolis on May 14, 1936, to Peter Eugene and Mabel (Kania) Sweeney, and would often joke that her Dad, who was 100% Irish, and her Mom, who was 100% German, both felt that they had married beneath themselves. Humor and competitive natures prevailed in their home. They subscribed to two copies of the morning paper and would compete to see who would finish the crossword first.
Growing up there were several things we knew, and could depend on, about Mom.
She had eyes in the back of her head – we never quite saw them, but she seemed to always know what we were up to. Another one was that we needed to run fast to beat the reports of our shenanigans home before Mom heard about them from someone else. (Never a good thing if she already knew about it when you got home!) And Mom was totally psychic. (She would usually say “psycho” and laugh). There were many times that I would pick up the phone to call her only to have it start ringing as I was reaching for it; she was calling me first.
She had a gift for showing up when help was needed, taking over the kitchen, and cooking an amazing meal from your bare cupboards all while also wrangling the kids and whatever else she found that needed doing; all to free you up to attend to the emergency at hand.
Many times she would “just happen to be in the neighborhood with a little care package” that she thought you could use. When you emptied the bag you would find several necessities and tucked in between the bread and the peanut butter there would be a little something just for you. Something a little frivolous - a little treat she knew you liked, or the all-purpose green folded paper (money), with the instructions to use it however YOU want.
Pat lived her Christian faith every single day. Wherever she saw a need she would reach out offering whatever she could to help. She took care of everyone she met in one way or another. Stopping to offer a ride to a young mother carrying her toddler, bringing food, clothing, blankets to others who needed them, going out at 2 am to flood the back yard for a skating rink for the neighborhood or talking to, and learning about the new teller at the credit union.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Eugene and Mabel (Kania) Sweeney, and her brothers and sister-in-law: Eugene and Josephine Sweeney, James Sweeney and John Charles (Chuck) Sweeney.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Bernard (Bernie) Kaiser, who upon his return from the service was promptly introduced to Pat by his sister Maggie. Pat and Bernie were married on October 16, 1954, over 68 years ago; and their children: Nancy Kaiser (John See), Martin Kaiser (Lila), Benjamin Kaiser, Susan Corns (Barry), Daniel Kaiser, William Kaiser, Mary Warren (David Sr.), Kathryn Kaiser (Michael Williams), Caroline Kaiser, and Thomas Kaiser (Kendra); 18 Grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and countless friends.
