Norbert R. Limmer

Norbert R Limmer,

A dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Norbert (known to his friends as Nobby) peacefully entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on January 4 ^th , 2019 at the age of 90.  He was preceded in death by wife, Edelle (Pearson) Limmer; infant grandson, Tony Cunningham; parents, Theodore and Metta Limmer; brothers, Theodore Limmer, Jr; and Harlan Limmer.

He is survived by his sister, Marilyn (Earl Dey) and children, Warren (Lori) Limmer, Bryan Limmer, Cheryl (Limmer) Cunningham, Sharon Limmer, and Carla (Brett) Mayer; grandchildren, Kalli, Jordan (Laura), Nathan Limmer; Nicole, Ryan, and Mattie Cunningham.

Norbert was born and raised in Madison, SD until he enlisted in the US Marines after high school graduation.  He later enlisted in the USAF and served in the Korean War. After one formal date, he asked “a farm gal from Crooks, SD”, Edelle Pearson to marry him via the US Mail, complete with the engagement ring tucked inside the envelope.  They were happily married for 56 years.  After military service he graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD with an Art Major in 1957.

His God given talent was reflected in his artwork and he was employed in various commercial artist positions in the Omaha and Minneapolis areas, most notably being an Art Director for Holiday Station Stores from 1965 to 1996. He was a gifted oil and acrylic painter and often worked gratis freelance for charitable organizations.

After being fully retired he enjoyed being a greeter at the Salvation Army Church in Brooklyn Park, MN starting in 2009 and later at the Wayman AME Church.  He was well known for privately offering small printed copies of his artwork with a salvation message that promoted eternal life through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a generous, friendly father and mentor to family and friends. About four years ago, Norbert found a new special friend, Mary Smith during visits to the Wayman AME Church in Minneapolis.  They both found a new purpose for living in their newfound close friendship until Mary passed into Jesus arms about one month ago.

He loved his country, family, friends, and his Savior.  He simply was a very good man. Generous, humble, tenderhearted. To every person who knew him, he will be forever remembered as a shining reflection of Christ’s love.  Reviewal will be held 5:00-8:00pm Tuesday, January 8th, at the Gearty-Delmore Chapel of Plymouth, 15800 37 ^th Ave N, Plymouth, MN (37 ^th and Vicksburg Ln); and additional reviewal starting at 10:00am, Wednesday, January 9th, and funeral service starting at 11:00am, at Wayman AME Church, 1224 7 ^th Ave N, Minneapolis, MN, followed by  interment with military honors at Dawn Valley Cemetery, Bloomington, MN.
