Nancy Jean Verding Trochlil of Plymouth, MN, died peacefully on August 10, 2024, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Larry, and children, Zach, Kake, and Kiley; parents, Orville & Mary Ann Verding, sister, Karey, and niece Brooklyn; eight brothers- and sisters-in-law, along with their spouses, 32 nieces and nephews;, and mother-in-law Rose Trochlil. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law Dick Trochlil and her beloved dog, Cisco. Nancy bravely fought cancer for over three years, without complaint, and looked as glamorous as always. Nancy perfected everything she did: mother, wife, Christian, friend, co-worker, fashionista, chef, gift giver, and party planner. Just her presence improved any situation. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn such a beautiful, selfless, generous soul. May we be comforted knowing she is in Jesus’ loving arms.
Nancy was born on December 14th in Minneapolis, MN, to Orville and Mary Ann Verding and eventually welcomed sister Karey. Nancy felt very lucky to have such devoted and kind parents. Whether it was her dad working at the bank or masterfully creating various furniture and gadgets from wood or looking up to her fashionable mom, to which Nancy’s impeccable style can be attributed, who wouldn’t even go to the grocery store without her nylons on. Though she and her sister often wished for an older brother, no one could compete with the bond they shared. Her summers growing up were spent bike riding, waking up to the smell of fresh-cut grass from the golf course in the backyard, and constantly being entertained by her sister. Fall in Winona was her favorite time of year, and she later ensured all her closest friends and family would see why, when she married her husband, Larry Trochlil, in October 1992. Nancy loved her childhood. When she raised her own family, she recreated the genuine love and family closeness that she cherished as a child.
Nancy graduated from Winona High School before attending St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Partway through her studies, she decided to move to Minneapolis and finish her schooling at the University of Minnesota. After finishing college, Nancy got a job at a fragrance design company– anyone who knew her would agree that it was a great fit for her fashion-oriented mind. This allowed her to work in a field that she was passionate about, while also traveling all over the world.
In 1991, while working in Minneapolis, Nancy met Larry. They were married the following year. In one day, with an exchange of vows, she went from one sister to nine siblings with Larry’s eight brothers and sisters welcoming her into the Trochlil family. She cherished every occasion with Larry’s family, and as her extended family grew, so did the joy she found in these relationships. Nancy’s career continued in marketing before she finally took on her most important role- in 1998 she gave birth to her first child, Zachary. He was quickly joined by Kathryn in 1999. In 2004, the family was completed when Kiley was born. The family Nancy and Larry created was a source of immense pride and her legacy will live on through the bond her family shares.
The loss of Nancy will impact communities across Minnesota and beyond. She belonged to Calvary Lutheran Church, Medina Golf & Country Club, and volunteered at Benilde St.-Margarets, where she received the “Hall of Honor” award for her leadership skills running the Spirit Shop and other fun volunteer activities. Attending worship, golfing, and volunteering did not stop her from being part of multiple book clubs, Friday Family dinners, Mom Squad get-togethers, BSMDT duties, and all her children’s sports and activities. Nancy spent all of her time giving to others. Her selfless spirit will live on in those who knew and loved her.
Nancy’s family would like to thank all those who supported Nancy throughout this tough journey. The doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic, who provided excellent care over the past three and a half years; Diana and Kim at Grace Hospice for their exceptional and loving home care; Jim and Nora Rogers, who opened their home, hearts, and any spare moments to Nancy and her family while she received care in Rochester; Nancy’s Quail Hollow crew, providing meals and running errands; the various “extended” families she was part of: Friday Family, BSM family, and Mom Squad, who all took time from their busy lives to ensure Nancy and her family were cared for and did not have to worry about anything but Nancy. She will be missed by numerous cherished friends and incredible neighbors. It is easy to see the wonderful person Nancy was by looking at the outstanding people she surrounded herself with.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 15th at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel in Plymouth, MN 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral service Friday, August 16th at Calvary Lutheran Church Golden Valley, MN 11 am with visitation 1 hour prior to service at church.
