Michael Kent Walz

Walz, Michael Kent, age 71 of Golden Valley passed away on August 4, 2018. Michael was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1946, graduated with a bachelors degree from Northern State University in 1968 and received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Hamline University School of Law in 1976. He started his career after college as a high school teacher, and during that time served as a debate coach and student drama director. He began his career with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office first as a law clerk, and then as an attorney. After proudly serving for 35 years as a prosecutor, he retired in 2011 as Head of Appeals. Michael was a locally and nationally recognized speaker and taught at a number of local colleges. His generosity, story telling, and sense of humor touched everyone around him. He was a person of great intellect, creativity and wit. Michael loved playing and listening to music, especially Irish music. He was an accomplished singer and musician, spending many hours playing in his group Spancil Hill, and socializing with the many friends he knew from the local Irish community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Michael Walz and Jeanne Marie Walz, and brother, Monte Richard Walz (Vicki). He is survived by wife Christy Gay Lueck, children Colleen Marie Walz, Michael Richard Walz (Jaran), Kacy Christine Lueck Walz, and Christopher Michael Lueck Walz, granddaughters Caroline Grace Walz and Margaret Madison Walz, siblings Mark William Walz (Paulette) and Michele Georgia (Walz) Stegeman, and many beloved family members and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 10 from 4-7 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3888 West Broadway, Robbinsdale. A brief memorial service will be included during the visitation at 6:00 p.m. Memorials preferred to The Church of St. Margaret Mary, Golden Valley or the American Diabetes Association.
