Michael J Sweeney

Born in Portland, OR, the son of military parents, Mike lived in many places. After his mother's passing when he was 14, Mike went to live with his aunt and uncle, William and Jeanne Akers in Spokane, WA. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1967. He married his wife Gema and started his family in Spokane. Mike's 35 year career with JC Penny's started in Spokane and continued in NE, IL, ND and MN, ending in Brainerd, MN. He then worked for Breezy Point Resort for 10 years until his retirement in Oct. of 2013. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Patricia; brother, Patrick. Survived by wife, Gema; children, Mike, Jr. (Brenda), Chris (Kari) and Anna (Ryan) Iwanski; grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Max, Matthew, Joshua, John and Mary; sister, Carole Knudsen; his many Akers cousins; many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at several locations. Any memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
