Michael S. Nelson passed into the loving arms of His Savior, in whom he trusted, at his home on October 1, 2022. Mike was born in Fargo, ND. Mike spent the majority of his life in the Twin Cities, with family and many friends, including his best friend PJ, who was beside Mike for everything over the last 18 years.
After college, Mike worked in the restaurant industry and brought life and energy into all he did. He moved to Chicago for a couple of years and lived near his family there, working in some of the best restaurants. Mike enjoyed the Chicago sports, music and restaurant scene. Mike returned to the Twin Cities to be close to his dad, Norval, who needed to be cared for. While there he worked at National Food Lab, a division of Eurofins, as a quality and safety manager. His work team will tell you he quickly became family, too.
Mike was larger than life; he always had an upbeat attitude and would greet you with a big bear hug. He loved spending time with his family; traveling to Chicago and Florida was part of his R and R. Mike had many friends in the area and loved going out on the lake, golfing, making people laugh and was a big sports and music fan. There wasn't a hot sauce he wouldn't try and that was how he lived his life, with great abundance. Mike always left you with an "I love you" and another bear hug. He will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by aunt, Nana Savoy (Nelson); cousins, Tana (Tom) Cachey and Juanita (Mike) Nelson; second cousins, Kevin (Jenna), Alesia and Bradley Radowski, Tony, Anita and Robbie Nelson; third cousins, Johnny, Frankie, Harley and Oliver Radowski; son, Justin Unger; daughter, Jordanna Heitkamp; grandchildren, Nizhoni, Bellami and Myles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norval and Ladonna Nelson; grandparents, Karsten and Fern Nelson; cousin, Mike Nelson; uncle, Mike Savoy.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8 at Gearty-Delmore Park Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Ave S., St. Louis Park, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
