Michael James Jennings

Michael “Jim" Jennings, age 95, well-known twin cities restaurateur, entered into eternal life on June 4th.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, his children: Mary, Ann, Michael (Cara), Tim, Peggy Frisch (Scott), Barbie and eight grandchildren.

Jim grew up in Minneapolis where he attended West High School and achieved status as an outstanding athlete and football player. Jim also played football at the University of Minnesota and served honorably in the armed forces during World War II. Jim was introduced to the game of golf, which quickly became one of his greatest passions. Jim was a 67-year member of Minneapolis Golf Club and played golf until his passing.

As a restaurateur, Jim opened his first restaurant, Jennings Red Coach Inn in 1963, followed by Timothy O’Toole’s Pub (1973), Gipper’s (1987) Scoreboard Bar and Grill (1991) and JJ’s Clubhouse (1995). Jim was an elected by his peers to the prestigious Minnesota Restaurant Hall of Fame as well as the Minnesota License Beverage Association Hall of Fame and was once named Operator of the Year for the state of Minnesota.

Jim will be remembered by so many people as a great, faith-filled, loving and humble man who cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and his loyal employees. He will be dearly and sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
