Michael George Racer Jr. Van Heel, 29 of Minneapolis, passed away quickly and peacefully on April 13, 2017 in Bloomington, Minnesota. He was born November 11, 1987, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was adopted by Michael and Barbara Racer, and after his father’s death and mother’s remarriage, adopted again by Barbara with Jim Van Heel, who was the father he knew best.
Mike grew up mostly in Crystal and Golden Valley, Minnesota with his parents and his sisters, Amy and Rachel. He graduated from Armstrong High School in 2006.
He enjoyed camping, building fires, family trips to Duluth, Nauvoo (Illinois), a road trip to Utah and trips to visit his aunt and uncle in Wisconsin. He had a delightful smile that included a twinkle in his eye. He was loving and kind to most everyone he met, and a hard and diligent worker. He worked with is his dad, Jim Van Heel, in his construction business as a carpenter.
He is survived by his parents, Jim and Barbara Van Heel; his beloved daughter, Rebecca Riley Van Heel of St. Paul, Minnesota; sisters, Amy (James) Crook of Rexburg, Idaho and Rachel Van Heel of Salt Lake City, Utah; half-sisters, Angel (Neil) Selden of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Louisa Van Heel of Golden Valley, Minnesota; half-brother, James (Kati Ann) Van Heel of Spooner, Wisconsin; former half-sisters, Gina (Tommy) Albury of the Bahamas, Shauna (Jason) Kracke) and Kate (Jake) Russell of Florida; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his birth family with whom he had also connected recently.
