Merney C. Rogman, age 96, of Apple Valley, formerly of Crystal, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018.
A sad farewell to Renee’s wonderful 96 year old mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Merney died peacefully yesterday, surrounded by family. She campaigned for Hubert Humphrey as mayor, and taught newly naturalized citizens how to sew as a shop steward in the garment industry. She took her workers out on strike for better pay and health benefits at a time when women were wildly underpaid compared to men, sewed for top New York designers, and never lost her feisty edge.
She had a quick, fun sense of humor and loved family! She was so proud of her daughter and grand kids and often bragged about them, especially that fact that they had college educations, in that she finished eighth grade and then went to work. She started life when farms didn't have electricity and milking happened by the light of kerosene lanterns and ended life after we'd walked on the moon and were planning a trip to Mars. Wow ... what a life! We loved you so much!
Survived by daughter Renee King (Charles), sisters Majorie Reinking, and Mona Lou Henderson (Laurel), brother Milne Miltz, grandchildren Jared King (Shannon) and Erin Griffin Boyle (Patrick), four great-grandchildren Maggie, Finnegan, Sullivan, and Duncan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
