Mary Theresa O’Flanagan has departed this world to be with Heaven’s Angels. Mary’s Catholic faith was an integral part of her life and her family is comforted knowing she’s at peace. Mary was born in the city of Galway, Ireland, married Eamon O’Flanagan then later emigrated with their first-born son to the United States and settled in New York City. Mary is predeceased by her husband Eamon and survived by their 6 children: Noel (Sallie), Kevin (Joyce), Maureen (Frank), Janet (Mark), Deborah and Erin (Jeff); 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
As a young girl in Galway Mary loved music and dance so welcomed the chance to live in New York City. She was very proud of and devoted to her 6 children who have very fond memories of their mom taking them on field trips into Radio City and Macy’s at Christmastime. When her husband Eamon died at an early age in 1982, Mary moved from NY to San Diego, then Dallas. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting her family in AZ, CA, MA, MN, NJ, VA, HI and FL. In 2017 Mary moved into Summerwood of Plymouth, MN near her youngest daughter Erin.
Mary’s final days were spent at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice in Edina MN, where she was surrounded by her children in a very tranquil setting. The staff cared for and comforted Mary and children with genuine respect, gentleness and kindness. Mary felt the love surrounding her and was able to pass peacefully. Our family wants to offer sincere thanks to the staff at N.C. Little for their love, kindness & support during this time.
Mary’s family takes great comfort knowing she lived a long, happy life and always felt loved. Mary’s spirit will live forever in her children, grandchildren and beyond.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 4 with visitation one hour prior at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 155 County Road 24, Wayzata (Medina) MN. At a later date a graveside service will be held on Long Island NY, where Mary will be buried alongside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to N.C. Little Memorial Hospice, Edina. We will forever be grateful for the love & care given to our mom in her final days and for the comfort N.C. Little offers to so many other families.
