On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, Mary Nelson, loving wife, sister, aunt, and

friend, passed away peacefully at home at age 77, surrounded by family.

Mary was born on December 17, 1942, in Virginia, MN, to Margaret (Kehoe)

and Kenneth Hayes. Mary married Norman Nelson on September 21, 1974, and

lived in Brooklyn Center, MN, for more than 50 years.

Mary was a surgical technician at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale,

MN, for many years until she moved to Northwest Eye Clinic. She was a

favorite with patients throughout the area, beloved for her humor, zest for

life, and unreserved caring presence. Anyone who ever went out with Mary

could tell stories about former patients recognizing her in the supermarket

or Target and running over for a hug. Mary was also an extraordinary sister

and aunt, and a Facebook page dedicated to her by the younger generation

reveals so many stories of how she lit up a room and got people laughing,

no matter their age.

Mary loved Country Western and Irish music, especially Daniel O'Donnell,

and the many trips from the Cities to the Iron Range or Fergus Falls where

Norman is from meant cranking up the music and singing along. She also

loved peanut butter, eating out with friends, and meticulously ironed

clothes. She was a terrific dancer and loved cutting a rug with whomever

she could get out on the dance floor.

Mary is survived by her husband Norman, sisters Peggy and Kathleen, brother

Denny, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service Saturday (6/26/21),

2 PM with visitation starting at 1 PM at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel,

3888 W. Broadway.
