Married US Army Captain Robert ‘Bob’ Marius DeGabriele Tuesday, November 20, 1945. During the ceremony, Mary Ann carried the same white prayer book her mother had carried for her wedding.Attended high school at the St. Joseph’s all girl Academy in Green Bay. She was class vice president upon graduation in 1937.
Mary Ann attended Nursing school at the Oak Park School of Nursing, Oak Park, IL. She completed post graduate work at Cook County Hospital, and Loyola University, Chicago. There she practiced pediatric care specializing in premature babies.
Mother of three: Kathleen (Raymond Beauchamp, married 1970), David (Kathy Ragain, married 1985), Robert (Laura Himmler married 1984).
Pre-deceased by: Husband Bob in 1996. Parents Rosamond and Mahlon Prokopovitz. Also sister Elinor (and husband Clayton), and brothers Mahlon (Lucille), Paul (Phyllis), and “Maggie”, wife of brother John. Tragically, her youngest brother David died at age 9 in 1948. Son-in-law Raymond Beauchamp passed away in August, 2018.
Survived by her children, also two grandchildren, Aaron DeGabriele and Alexis DeGabriele; and her brother John Proko of Kenosha. Mary Ann is survived by many, many Prokopovitz family and DeGabriele family nieces & nephews who all were so very dear to Mary Ann’s heart.
Mary Ann was a woman of great Catholic Faith. As was Bob. She received her First Communion and was Confirmed in 1932. Mary Ann & Bob would recite rosaries when driving to Gulf Shores Alabama as snowbirds all those years. A practice she continued to this day.
Mary Ann moved to Negaunee with Bob after WWII in 1945. She ended her formal nursing practice to raise her family, but maintained her license until at least 1980, and was the Lincoln Street neighborhood nurse for ages.
Mary Ann was active in the community. She served as Chairperson of the Marquette County Historical Society. She served in a similar capacity for Negaunee’s Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council, PAAC.
Mary Ann and Bob travelled the world (a few destinations were France, Spain, Egypt, and Thailand).
Memorials are preferred to St. Jude.
