Born on July 2,1927 in Grand Forks, ND Martha grew up on a farm near Whitman, ND. She attended high school in Park River, ND and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. After teaching for several years in Walker, MN, and Long Prairie, MN she married Charles J. Wilson in 1954. They raised their family in Hutchinson, MN before settling in Plymouth, MN.
Martha was a founding member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson where she both sang in the choir and directed the bell choir. She was a 40-year congregant of St. Philip the Deacon Church where she also was a member of the choir. The Plymouth Rockers singers were blessed to have her as their pianist for 17 years. She loved music, whether performing on the piano as a youth, playing the trombone in the high school and Concordia bands, or singing in various choirs; she enjoyed attending performances ranging from the Minnesota Orchestra to college touring choirs to a grandchild’s first band concert. Her children picked up her love of music and her influence extended to four grandchildren who earned degrees in music performance.
Additionally, Martha savored travel (Europe, the Holy Land and throughout the US including Hawaii often via Elder Hostels), meeting with her Masonic friends “the Loonies”, golf, multiple book clubs, frequent bridge games and particularly anything involving her children and grandchildren.
A full life, well lived.
A memorial service for Martha will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 11:00 AM at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, 17205 County Rd 6, Plymouth, with visitation one hour prior to the service. To watch a livestream of Martha's service please click here .
