Marlene (nee Holmberg) Schneider, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on December 7th, surrounded by family and love. She was a long time resident of Medina, Minnesota, and an accomplished equestrian. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frank Schneider, who fell in love with her while both working at the Mpls public library. Also preceded in death by parents Byron and Marie Holmberg, brother Bruce Holmberg, and nephew, Mark Moeller.
She is survived by her five children Kent (Cindy) Schneider, Brian (Mary) Schneider, Jill (Jim) Ball, Anne (Dan Sundin) Schneider, and Stacy Schneider Marek. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Kris, Katie, Keri, Kelly, Tony, JD, Jason, Jesse, Garrett, Camden, Ethan, Stefan, Kayla, and Keegan, as well as seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved best friend and sister Sharon (Bob) Moeller and her niece, Maria (Rodger) Moeller Smith. Marlene is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her wish was to stay in her home until the very end, and with a loyal family and wonderful caregivers, we were able to make that happen for her.
After moving to Medina in 1968, Marlene was able to make her dream of owning horses a reality. Over the next 50 years she was a passionate horse owner, rider, and student of dressage. She loved her work as a dressage teacher, trainer, mentor, and well-known S USEF Senior Dressage Judge. She joyfully traveled to horse shows around the world, made wonderful horse friends, and reluctantly retired at 82. She will be greatly missed in that arena, pun intended, as well.
At only 5’2, Marlene was a force of nature, fiercely loving, brave, and clever. Thanks to her degree in Home Economics, and Pillsbury test kitchen work, she was a kitchen magician. She was an amazing mother to her grateful five children; instilling many birthday and holiday traditions that will live on for generations to come.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a visitation an hour prior at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, 155 County Rd 24, Wayzata, MN 55391. Memorials preferred to CanDoCanines.org, New Hope, Mn, and FreedomFarmMN.org.
