Mark was born on January 14, 1964 in Minneapolis. After graduating from Wayzata High School, he moved to Des Moines, IA to earn his BA in Business Administration in 1986. Working full time, he went to earn his MBA at Drake University in 1991. Mark joined Malt-o-Meal in Minneapolis in 1992 and was currently the Chief Administration Officer with Post Holdings.
Mark and Maike shared a love of travel, animals, each other and community. After their honeymoon in Australia, Mark and his wife continued to travel all over the US as well as many European Countries; their last trip together brought them to Alaska. Mark was a talented photographer and his pictures were featured in national and international magazines as well as the cover photograph of a German-published book on Icelandic Horses. In his spare time, he enjoyed road biking, working on his hobby farm with Maike, finance, and hanging out with his dog, Buddy.
Mark is preceded by the death of his parents, Vivian (Spande) and Richard E. Johnson.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Maike Liekweg Johnson; his sister, Kim (Johnson) Merriam and her husband, Richard Merriam; his four nephews, Daniel, Jeff, Andrew and William; his special friend and uncle, Micheal (Paula) Johnson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Professor Dieter and Ute Liekweg; his brother-in-law, Florian Liekweg; his dog, Buddy and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be remembered and deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, Mark requested donations to Dogs-on-Deployment (dogsondeployment.org) or the Loretto Fire Department.
