Mark Ewald, age 65 of Robbinsdale, passed away on January 27, 2023. He was a kind, generous man who quietly made this world a better place.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pat; son, Brandon Ewald and his fiancée Zoe Odegard; brother and sister-in-law, Scott Ewald and Su Ye; sister-in-law, Barb Klick and brother-in-law, Greg Blaufuss; brother-in-law, Brad Kulberg; nieces and nephews, Alex, Melissa, Stephanie, Elliott, and Spencer; and special little ones Morgan, Abby and Jonny. He is preceded in death by parents, William and Lila Ewald; brother, Bradley Ewald; and sister-in-law, Sally Kulberg.
Mark began what he thought would be his career working in the US Forest Service at Gifford Pinchot National Forest - Mount Saint Helens. When Mount Saint Helens erupted in May 1980 Mark decided to take a solo bicycle trip traveling from Anoka, MN, to Alaska, then down the coast of California (this was before cell phones high-tech bike equipment). He brought his camera to capture the beautiful scenery along the way and he talked often about this adventure and the wonderful people he met along the way.
Everything Mark did was through the eyes of an artist, whether it was taking photos, drawing, designing, woodworking or building. He was an avid reader, loved history, and was a Civil War buff. One of the many family trips was to Gettysburg which was a reminder to him of the struggles faced as a nation.
A 34-year resident of Robbinsdale, he loved his community and neighbors and served for over 10 years on the Park and Recreation commission.
A celebration of his life will be held at a future date this summer.
