Marion Esther (Hebeisen) Mundt, 86, of Maple Grove, MN, rose to the everlasting arms of her Savior on January 22, 2020. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lydia Hebeisen, brothers Chester, Marvin, Fritz, Alloyd and Floyd; sisters Violet Luecke, Myra Johnson, and Val Craven. She is survived by husband Jim, and her children, Linda (Daniel) Gustafson of Maple Grove, MN; Sue (Joe) Bucci of Raleigh, NC; and Nancy (John) Pelant of St. Michael, MN; her grandchildren Melissa Bucci of Wilmington, NC; Kathryn (Timothy) Gustafson Verastigui of Plymouth, MN; Emily (Logan) Bucci Meier of Brooklyn, NY; Sarah Gustafson of Maple Grove, MN; Nathan and Claire Pelant of St. Michael, MN; her great-grandchildren Banks and Ava; and her siblings Earl (Clara Lee) Hebeisen, Dorothy (John) Barten, and Dick (Noreen) Hebeisen.
Marion was born and raised in Green Isle, MN, the 10 th child of their 12-child family, and her family resided in the building of the family’s butcher shop. She was a tomboy at heart, yet proudly served as her mother’s “baker.” Though a bit shy, she tossed her cares to the wind when she twirled her baton, all while landing one-handed cartwheels and walkovers in Glencoe High School’s marching band. After a couple years living with girlfriends near Lake of the Isles, and employed as a construction company’s secretary, she met the love of her life, Jim, of neighboring LeSueur. They married six months later, on a snowy Friday evening in December. The two later embarked on an adventure of a lifetime, living in Naples, Italy, while Jim served as a Seabee in the US Navy.
More than anything, Marion loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her Bible and hymns. Witty and unpretentious, Marion loved simplicity: summers at the lake; picking wild raspberries; canoeing; golfing with Jim; walking in the rain; playing cards; winter vacations in Hawaii; retirement months in South Padre Island, TX and Bible studies. She volunteered as a Camp Fire Girl leader, and, in her 70’s, as an elementary school reading volunteer. Her joy was serving her churches as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Altar Guild, a visitor to the elderly, and as the church librarian. Ever learning, Marion took classes in communications, writing, and philosophy at Bethel College and North Hennepin College. She loved her Bible and hymns. She adored her grandchildren, taking them to Como Park, and cheering them on in dance recitals, baseball games, plays, concerts, and cross country meets. She lived in awe of God’s creation- the stars, trees, flowers, rainbows, lakes, oceans, streams and snowflakes, and loved watching birds in the backyard. Her legacy is the faith and love she instilled in her husband, children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale on Saturday, February 1 at 11 am, with visitation one-hour prior, beginning at 10 am. Memorials preferred to Eagle Lake Youth Golf Center and Elim Lutheran Church.
